The Dig Site is a quest where you help the Varrock Museum uncover ancient secrets by passing an archaeology exam and gaining permission to excavate the site of the lost city of Saranthium—but what you uncover is far more sinister than buried ruins.

Bring all items required when starting this quest, so you don’t have to go to a bank till the end.
Talk to an Examiner in the Exam Centre, southeast of Varrock. Reply 1, 1.
Talk to Curator Haig in the Varrock Museum. Refer to the image below to find most of the NPCs in this quest.
Return to an Examiner in the Exam Centre southeast of Varrock.
Search the bushes north of the Exam Centre for a teddy.
Pick up the tray in the southeast of the dig site.
Talk to the Panning Guide nearby.
Pan in the panning point for a special cup. Search the tray every time you pan to see if you've got what you need.
Pickpocket workmen until you get an animal skull and a specimen brush.
Talk to the female student in the northwest of the Digsite twice.
Talk to the student in an orange shirt in the northeast of the Digsite twice.
Talk to the student in a green shirt in the south of the Digsite twice.
Talk to an Examiner in the Exam Centre to take the first test. Reply 1, 1, 3, 2.
Talk to the female student in the northwest of the Digsite.
Talk to the student in an orange shirt in the northeast of the Digsite.
Talk to an Examiner in the Exam Centre to take the second test. Reply 1, 3, 1, 3.
Bring an Opal and talk to the female student in the northwest of the Digsite twice.

Dig in the northeast dig spot in the Digsite until you get a talisman.
Talk to the Archaeological expert in the Exam Centre.
Use the invitation on any workman. There are several workmen found around the Digsite.
Bring the following items: 2 ropes, 1 Trowel, 1 Pestle and mortar, 1 Vial, 1 Tinderbox, and 1 Charcoal.
Use a rope on the west winch.
Climb down the west winch.
Pick up some Arcenia root.
Search the bricks to the south.
Climb back to the surface.
Use a rope on the northeast winch.
Climb down the northeast winch.
Talk to Doug Deeping. Reply 4 and leave Doug's cave.
Use the key on the chest in the tent in the south of the Digsite.
Search the chest.
Use a trowel on the barrel west of the chest's tent.
Use a vial on the barrel west of the chest's tent.

Use the powder on the Archaeological expert in the Exam Centre.
Mix the nitroglycerin and ammonium nitrate.
Grind charcoal with a pestle and mortar.
Add charcoal to the mixed chemical.
Add Arcenia root to the mixed chemical.
Climb down the rope on the west winch.
Use the compound on the bricks to the south.
Use a tinderbox on the bricks to the south. This will cause them to explode.
Take the stone tablet in the south room.
Use the tablet on the Archaeological expert in the Exam Centre to complete the quest.
