OSRS Tears Of Guthix Guide: Strategy, Teleports & Worlds

OSRS Tears Of Guthix Guide: Strategy, Teleports & Worlds

Tears of Guthix is a weekly Distraction & Diversion in Old School RuneScape that rewards players with free experience in their lowest skill. It’s a great passive XP source—especially useful for unpopular skills like Runecrafting or Hunter. In this guide, you'll learn how to access the minigame, optimize your time, and which worlds are best to use for maximum efficiency.

What Is Tears of Guthix?

Tears of Guthix is a once-per-week minigame that gives players XP in their lowest-level skill based on how many blue tears they collect from magical rifts inside a cave.

Requirements:

  •  Sapphire_lantern_%28lit%29.png?c4e91 Sapphire Lantern
  •  Quest points 43 Quest points
  •  Firemaking_icon.png?45ea0 49 Firemaking
  •  Crafting_icon.png?a1f71 20 Crafting
  •  Mining_icon.png?00870 20 Mining
  •  Skills icon Either 100,000 XP gained across all stats or 1 quest completed in the last 7 days, or you won’t be able to enter if you have done the minigame before.

It's great for Ironmen and skillers looking to passively train neglected skills.

How to Get to Tears of Guthix

The minigame takes place in Lumbridge Swamp Caves, in a special cave that opens after completing the Tears of Guthix quest.

Fast Travel Methods

  •  Games_necklace%288%29.png?3b568 Games Necklace → Teleport to Tears of Guthix (after quest)
  •  Lumbridge_Teleport.webp Lumbridge Teleport → go through swamp caves manually (light source needed)

Spiny_helmet.png?e8969 If entering manually, bring a light source and a spiny helmet to avoid cave bugs.

How It Works

Remember, if you have any weapons or anything in your defense slot, it won't let you through. So once we're inside, we must try to get as many points as possible within the time limit. We must focus on clicking the blue circles, which fill our bowl with tears, and ignore the green ones, because they give us less exp, just don't look at them and that's it.

Tears flow from various wall crevices. The rifts change locations, so be ready to move quickly. Each tear collected gives a small amount of XP in your lowest skill.

Best Worlds for Tears of Guthix

Using a dedicated world with fewer players means less lag and fewer tear spawns being occupied.

  • World 509 (Optimal tears rotation for more gains)
  • Use the RuneLite plugin to learn more about this.
  • Avoid PvP worlds

Strategy Tips

  • Do your weekly XP goals or questing before claiming your tears
  • Pause Slayer/Boss training just before doing Guthix to influence what skill gets trained
  • Complete Juna's dialogue (to gain entry) when the first green stream is approximately halfway through its duration. This will allow them to enter just as the first blue stream refreshes.
  • Players who have completed the Hard Lumbridge achievement diary will receive 10% more than those who have not.

Why It’s Worth Doing

  • Passive XP for neglected or expensive skills
  • Requires minimal time and effort, and it’s only once a week
  • No combat risk
  • Scales with total level and tear collection efficiency
  • Helpful for Ironmen who struggle with certain skill training methods

It helps you level up that skill that you've always hated and left unleveled.
