OSRS P2P Woodcutting Guide: Fastest Way From 1-99

OSRS P2P Woodcutting Guide: Fastest Way From 1-99

Woodcutting is one of the earliest and most iconic skills in Old School RuneScape. As a member (P2P), you have access to drastically faster training methods compared to free-to-play, including Teaks, Tick Manipulation, Redwoods, and the Woodcutting Guild.

This guide focuses exclusively on the FASTEST path to level 99, prioritizing XP per hour over money making or AFK comfort.

If your goal is speed, this is the guide. This guide is specifically for members. If you are a free-to-play user, please refer to this guide:

OSRS F2P Woodcutting Guide: Fastest Ways From 1-99

Fastest 1–99 Woodcutting Route (P2P)

It would take you one hour and fifteen minutes to finish all the quests discussed below, assuming you are quite familiar with questing.

Monk’s friend:  This quest is completed by doing favours for the monks at the Ardougne Monastery. It awards 2,000 woodcutting experience when completed and is rather easy to do with no skill requirements. This quest would take about fifteen minutes to complete.

Enlightened Journey: This quest requires the following skills: 20 firemaking, 30 farming, and 36 crafting. It also needs 20 quest points. Upon finishing this quest, you will receive 1,500 woodcutting experience in addition to experience rewards in farming, crafting, and firemaking. It would take roughly fifteen minutes to complete this quest.

Icthlarin’s Little Helper: This is the second quest in the Kharidian quest series; it only requires the completion of Gertrude’s cat quest and has no skill requirement. Decent combat stats are also required to kill a 75 or 81 guardian and a Possessed priest. This quest gives 4,000 woodcutting experience and other experience rewards in thieving and agility, and takes about 25 minutes to complete

Skratch Uglogwee subquest of a recipe for disaster: This quest requires 41 cooking, 20 fire making, and completion of the Big Chompy bird quest. Completing this quest grants 1,500 woodcutting experience and other experience rewards in cooking, crafting, and ranged. It takes 20 minutes to finish this quest.

Note that you should only do the quests above if you have the skill and quest requirements to complete them, as it would be faster to train 1 to 26 woodcutting by cutting trees rather than doing the requirements of these quests first.

1–15 Woodcutting

Tree Type: Normal Trees
Best Location: Between Lumbridge and Draynor Village

Start with an iron axe and begin chopping normal trees near the Draynor Village bank. This area has a lot of trees clustered together, making it a great starting point.

  • EXP/Log: 25
  • Logs needed: ~97
  • XP per hour: ~8,000–10,000 XP/hour
  • Tips:
    • Bank your logs or burn them using a tinderbox for Firemaking XP.
    • Burn logs as you cut since you can’t bank.
    • Upgrade to a steel axe at level 6 and a black axe (if you have one) at level 11.

15–30 Woodcutting

Tree Type: Oak Trees
Best Locations:

East of Draynor Village Bank

East Rimmington

At level 15, move slightly east to the single oak tree near the Draynor bank. It respawns fast enough that running between trees isn’t needed. Make sure to equip a black axe and change to mithril at level 21 woodcutting.

    • EXP/Log: 37
    • Logs needed: ~65
    • XP per hour: ~20,000–25,000 XP/hour
  • Tips:
    • Equip your mithril axe at level 21.
    • Continue banking or firemaking your logs for efficiency.

30–35 Woodcutting

Tree Type: Willow Trees
Best Locations:

  • Draynor Village: Southwest of the bank (most popular spot)

  • Rimmington: South of the village by the shore (quiet, ideal for Ironmen)

From level 30 onward, willows offer the fastest XP rates in this level. The trees respawn quickly and are located near convenient banks. From this point onwards, you have to keep changing the axes. At level 31, change to an adamant and at level 41, change to a rune axe until level 99.

  • EXP/Log: 68
  • Logs needed to 99: ~191,454
  • XP per hour: 35,000–50,000 XP/hour (normal clicking)
  • XP per hour with Tick Manipulation: 60,000–110,000 XP/hour

Once you hit level 35, the REAL speed training begins.

Level 35–65: Teak Trees (No Tick Manipulation)

From level 30 onward, cutting teak trees offers the fastest Woodcutting experience in the game when using tick manipulation. From this point onwards, you have to keep changing the axes. At level 41, switch to a rune axe.

  • EXP/Log: 68
  • Logs needed to 99: ~191,454
  • XP per hour: 35,000–50,000 XP/hour (normal clicking)
  • XP per hour with Tick Manipulation: 60,000–70,000 XP/hour

Best Locations

Isle of Souls - Fastest AFK teaks, no requirements

Castle Wars / Ape Atoll - Good cluster, close together

Prifddinas - Best location if unlocked — also can obtain Crystal Shards, meanwhile

Fossil Island Patches - Best banking option (requires Fossil Island unlock & 35 Farming to plant Teak Trees and be able to chop them)

What is 2-Ticking?

You force game ticks to speed up woodcutting using auto relate mechanics → Bird aggression cycle (typically done in Ape toll).

Inventory and gear

  • Runes for low-level spell casts or No axe equipped (for a chance to hit a 0)
  • Any shortbow with no arrows

Note: You can upgrade the Dragon Axe with a Crystal Axe, depending on your needs and woodcutting level.

How it works

  • Get a Bird lvl 5 to aggro you, be careful to kill them
  • Bring it to the Teak Tree locations
  • Click on the floor
  • Click Chop Down the Teak Tree

Once aligned, you alternate clicks based on rhythm — many players use the RuneLite Metronome or C-Shanty beat method.

If your character constantly turns back and forth rapidly, you're doing it correctly.

What is 1.5-Ticking?

To maximize the number of teak logs you get per hour, players use a technique that involves setting up a 3-tick rhythm (for example, by using swamp tar on a clean herb) and then rapidly switching between the tiles next to the hardwood patches.

If you time this action perfectly, you have a chance to collect two logs at once every three ticks.

Inventory and gear

  • Swamp Tar
  • Guam Leaf
  • Pestle and Mortar
  • Best Axe you can use (wearable)

How it works

  • Use Swamp Tar on your Guam Leaf
  • Click on the floor
  • Click Chop Down the Teak Tree
  • Repeat

Once aligned, you alternate clicks based on rhythm — many players use the RuneLite Metronome or C-Shanty beat method.

If your character constantly turns back and forth rapidly, you're doing it correctly.

Note: to do this method, you have to grow some Teak Trees before starting.

2-Tick Teaks

1.5-Tick Teaks (sweaty)

These hourly experience rates are not precise and may vary depending on different factors. Please keep that in mind.

Conclusion

No matter the method, upgrading your axe, using the Woodcutting Guild, and acquiring the Lumberjack outfit will help maximize efficiency.

If your goal is the absolute fastest possible 99, the clear winner is:

Teaks Trees → 2-Tick or 1.5-Tick Teaks until 99

It isn’t AFK, it requires practice, and early attempts will feel frustrating — but the XP rates are unmatched.

If you prefer AFK comfort, Redwood Trees (and will be covered in the next guide) or Passive Teaks Trees are great alternatives.

Good luck on your grind
