OSRS Ironman Crafting Guide: Tips & Tricks

Crafting is an essential skill, especially for ironman. It is required to craft different important jewelry for teleportation and combat bonuses. Different Crafting levels are also necessary for several money-making methods. Training crafting on an ironman can be challenging as players need resources before training. In this guide, we’ve outlined the most efficient resource-gathering strategies and the optimal training path to achieve 99 Crafting for ironman.

Fastest Method to Training Crafting on Ironman

Levels 1-33: Quests that give Crafting XP

Completing quests that give crafting XP is the fastest way to get crafting XP when starting. Most of these quests have relatively low or no skill requirements, and the items required for each are easily obtainable on an ironman. You should use the quest helper plugin when doing these quests, it can also show you where the items required are located and guide you through each of them.

  • Sheep Shearer: Players are rewarded with 150 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Misthalin Mystery: Players are rewarded with 200 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Dwarf Cannon: Players are rewarded with 600 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Goblin Diplomacy: Players are rewarded with 750 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Freeing the Goblin generals in the Recipe for Disaster series: Players are rewarded with 1,000 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Murder Mystery: Players are rewarded with 1,450 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Observatory Quest: Players are rewarded with 2,250 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Elemental Workshop I: requires 20 crafting, 20 mining, and 20 smithing. Players are rewarded with 5,000 crafting XP upon completion.
  • Elemental Workshop II: requires completion of Elemental Workshop I, 20 magic and 30 smithing players are rewarded 7,500 crafting XP upon completion.

Completion of these quests gives a total of 18,900 crafting XP, taking the player from level 1 to 33 crafting.

Levels 33-99: Crafting Glass Items

Glass items are items that can crafted from molten glass. As an ironman, you have to craft the molten glass first, since you can’t buy them from the grand exchange. There are two methods of doing this;

making glass items

Level 33 - 61: Crafting the molten glass with a bucket of sand and Soda ash

Molten glass can crafted by using a bucket of sand and soda ash on a furnace, this grants 20 crafting XP and requires only 1 crafting, The best place to buy soda ash and a bucket of sand is at the charter ship. You should buy from a charter ship close to a bank so you can quickly bank them. Port Khazard is a good place to do this since a deposit box is nearby, The fastest way to get there is through the fishing trawler minigame teleport (requires 15 fishing).

charter ship

When you get to Port Khazard, bank everything except your coins. Wearing the full graceful is also quite helpful since you need to run from the bank every time your inventory is full. You should buy both items from the charter ship and quickly hop worlds until your inventory is full. Use the nearby bank to bank the soda ash and bucket of sand, then repeat the process. The main problem with this method is stock availability. Since other players might be buying buckets of sand and soda ash at the same time as you, you can find low or no stock of those items available on some worlds.

edgeville

After getting enough buckets of sand and soda ash, you should go to a furnace close to a bank, like at Edgeville. Empty your inventory, set the default amount for bank withdrawal to 14, and withdraw 14 soda ash and buckets of sand then click the furnace to convert them into a molten glass. After getting enough molten glass, you should blow it into glass items that give the best crafting XP for your level, using a glassblowing pipe. Glassblowing pipe can be bought from charter ships

Level 61–99: Crafting the Molten glass with a bucket of sand and seaweed

To get the best XP rates, you should complete Lunar Diplomacy at 61 crafting, which is one of the requirements for the quest. After completion of the Lunar Diplomacy, the Superglass Make spell becomes available and can be used at 77 magic. Superglass Make spell combines all buckets of sand and all seaweed or soda ash in the player’s inventory into molten glass, granting 10 crafting XP per pair of the items. Players can buy buckets of sand and seaweed from the charter ship at Port Khazard.

After making molten glass, you need to blow them into glass items using a glassblowing pipe. With this method, you won’t need a bank, just follow this process. After getting a full inventory of equal amounts of buckets of sand and seaweed, cast the Superglass Make spell to change them into molten glass. Blow the molten glass using the glassblowing pipe into items you have the required crafting level for, then finally sell these items back to the Charter ship.

Since a bank is no longer required. Use less popular charter ships to get the best XP rates. For example, the charter ships at Port Tyras, Brimhaven dock, and Mos Le’Harmless are more likely to have buckets of sand and seaweed in stock

Getting Bucket of Sand and Seaweed

Bucket of sand

If you don’t have enough coins to buy the bucket of sand from the charter ship, there are other ways to get it.

  • Mine sandstone in the Bandit Quarry and grind it using the sandstorm. Players can claim noted buckets of sand from Drew after grinding the sandstone. He charges 50 coins per bucket. The Bandit Quarry is located at the mine south of the Bandit Camp. The fastest way to get here is through a camulet.

  • Players can collect buckets of sand from the sand pit north of the home teleport at Yanille

  • Players can claim 84 free buckets of sand daily from Bert after the completion of The Hand in the Sand quest.

Seaweed

Since fewer Giant seaweeds are needed for the same amount of bucket of sand when making molten glass, it’s a good idea to farm them instead of regular seaweed. The fastest way players can farm giant seaweed is by planting seaweed spores in seaweed patches in the underwater area of Fossil Island. This requires 23 farming and yields 21 XP for each giant seaweed picked. It takes approximately 40 minutes to grow fully. At least three can be collected per patch, 15-55 if ultracompost is used, or over 40 with attas seed.

Seaweed spores

Seaweed spores can be obtained in large numbers by killing lobstrosities in the underwater area of Fossil island. These level 68 monsters can only be damaged by a brine Sabre, trident of the seas, magic secateurs, or by using Magic. Up to 100 spores can be collected per hour using this method

Alternative Methods of Training Crafting on Ironman

Crafting Gems

Ironman will get lots of uncut gems while doing other activities like mining or killing monsters. Cutting these gems gives really good crafting XP rates. These gems include uncut opal, uncut jade, uncut red topaz, uncut sapphire, uncut emerald, uncut ruby, and uncut diamond.

How to get Gems on Ironman

Mining gemstones

Mining gemstones is a popular way to get gemstones. It can be done at Shilo village and requires completion of the Karamja medium diary and at least 40 mining, but 60+ mining is recommended. Players can mine about roughly 800 gems per hour, giving them about 60,000 mining XP. Cutting these gems can give the player up to 40,000 crafting XP. The gems can also be crafted into jewellery to get even more crafting XP.

Gems from Shooting Stars

When players mine the Crashed Star, they get stardust. Crashed stars are rocks from shooting stars. Stardust is used as currency at Dusuri’s Star shop, which can be used to purchase a bag full of gems for 300 Stardust. With this method, players can get 22,000-32,000 mining XP per hour, 600-1000 stardust per hour, which can buy 80–120 gems.

Crafting Battlestaves

Crafting different types of battlestaves by combining a battlestaves and a charged orb gives very good crafting XP and is also profitable if the battlestaves are high alched. Battlestaves can be obtained at a good rate from killing monsters.

Here are several monsters that drop the battlestaves and the rate at which they do:

  • Zulrah (10 noted battlestaff at a rate of 1/12.4),
  • Vorkath(5 noted battlestaff at the rate of 1/18.75),
  • Alchemical Hydra (8-12 noted battlestaff at a rate of 1/10.1)
  • Skeletal Wyverns (10 noted battlestaff at a rate of 1/42.67).

Alternatively, players who have completed task sets of Varrock Diary can buy noted battlestaves from a barrel near Zaff for 7,000 coins each.

The charged orbs are made from charging unpowered orbs at their respective Obelisks. Unpowered orbs can crafted from molten using a glassblowing pipe at level 46 crafting.
