OSRS Fly Fishing Guide: XP Rates & Best Spots For F2P & P2P

Fly fishing involves using a fly fishing rod to catch trout and salmon at various fishing locations. When it is done with tick manipulation, it is the fastest method of training fishing up to level 58. Without tick manipulation, fly fishing is a low-effort training method and offers lower experience rates, Players looking to train their fishing quickly without tick manipulation should opt for Tempoross at level 35, as it provides faster experience rates

Requirements for Fly Fishing

  • 20 fishing: this is the fishing level required to catch raw trout
  • Fly fishing rod: these can be bought from several fishing spots or the grand exchange, they can be used at some fishing spots with the lure option to catch fish
  • Feathers: these are used as lures for fly fishing, they cannot be noted since they are stackable, they can be bought from the Grand Exchange or fishing shops.

66e079343aa727.36002740.webpRunelite plugins: the Idle notifier and fishing plugin are both quite helpful. The fishing plugin highlights the active fishing spots, making it easier for players to see. The idle notifier notifies the player when their character stops a skilling animation like fishing. It can also be useful for fletching, mining, or creating battlestaves.

Best Locations for Fly Fishing For P2P

The best locations for fly fishing are locations where the fishing spots do not move often, this is more AFK since players don’t need to click new fishing spots, and saves the time that would be spent moving to active fishing spots. The best locations for fly fishing include:

  • Southeast of Prifddinas’ southern gate: this is probably the best location for fly fishing since the fishing spots do not move. This location requires partial completion of the Regicide quest to access. If you have completed the Regicide quest, you can quickly get there by using the Iorwerth camp teleport scroll and then running east as shown above.

  • Shilo Village: Players must complete the Shilo Village quest to access this location. Since there is a bank close to the fly fishing spot in this location, it is ideal for players who want to bank the fish that they get.

Best Locations for Fly Fishing in F2P

In F2P, there are fewer options where players can fly fish, the best location is at the Barbarian village discussed above. If you don’t want to use this area, a good alternative is the fly fishing spot at Lumbridge shown below:

How Does Tick Manipulation Work?

OSRS runs on a unit of time known as ticks, which lasts for 0.6 seconds. Tick manipulation happens when you trick the game into thinking that you are doing something that you are not. OSRS has a more generalized view of players when they are skilling. Anytime you click a fishing spot, the game will give you a fish and fishing experience every 5 ticks if successful, but it is only at the end of the 5 ticks that the game checks what you are doing and offers you the experience.

To trick the game, you need to do another skilling method that offers experience in shorter ticks like using a herb on 15 swamp tar with a pestle and mortar in your inventory which offers experience after 3 ticks. Since you clicked the fishing spot before using the items on each other, the game will assume you are fishing at the end of the three ticks and give you the fishing experience

How to do 3 tick Fly Fishing

3 tick fly fishing is mainly described by most players as difficult or unsustainable, however, it is not as difficult as portrayed and can be less boring for players that prefer more engaging skilling methods. This method of fishing allows the player to get fishing experience every 3 ticks instead of 5 ticks. To do 3 tick fly fishing, follow these steps;

  • First, ensure you bring the required items above.
  • Position the items in your inventory as shown in the image below

66e07994429338.53028283.webp

  • Click the fishing spot to start to fish, then immediately click the swamp tar and use it on the clean Tarromin after 3 ticks. This would allow you to get experience in 3 ticks instead of 5 ticks when AFK.
  • Right after the step above, click the fishing spot again and repeat the process.

In F2P, players who want to do the tick manipulation method should bring an axe and tinderbox while fly fishing at locations with nearby trees, such as Lumbridge. Begin by chopping logs and starting a fire before fishing. After catching fish, cook them right away and resume fishing. The cooked fish can then be eaten for tick manipulation. Although this method requires frequent clicking, it offers much higher experience rates.

XP per hour when 3 tick Fly Fishing

The experience rates below assume that the player knows how to do properly do tick manipulation without mistakes.

  • At level 30, players should expect 45,000 fishing experience per hour
  • At level 40, players should expect 53,000 fishing experience per hour
  • At level 50, players should expect 61,000 fishing experience per hour
  • At level 60, players should expect 68,000 fishing experience per hour
  • At level 70, players should expect 75,000 fishing experience per hour
  • At level 80, players should expect 81,000 fishing experience per hour
  • At level 90, players should expect 87,000 fishing experience per hour
