OSRS Fletching Training Guide: Leveling 1-99

OSRS Fletching Training Guide: Leveling 1-99

Fletching is one of the fastest and easiest skills to train in OSRS. Like most skills, the fastest methods of training are usually the most expensive, while the profitable methods of training are significantly slower; this also applies to fletching. Players should always ensure to monitor prices when training fletching, as the prices on this article might be different from the current prices due to price fluctuations.

One unique feature of training fletching is that it can be trained while doing other activities, mainly activities that involve a lot of running or idle time, like agility, stealing artefacts, farm runs, and even while questing. Training fletching while doing these kinds of activities makes it even more interesting, especially for players who enjoy more active gameplay.

Quests that give Fletching experience

When starting, players should complete quests that have little to no requirements and give fletching experience. These quests give the fastest fletching experience when starting and also come with other benefits as well.

  • Big Chompy Bird Hunting: this requires 5 fletching, 30 cooking, and 30 ranged. It rewards players with 262 fletching experience upon completion.
  • Animal magnetism: this requires 18 slayer, 19 crafting, 30 ranged, and 35 woodcutting. It rewards players with 1,000 fletching experience.
  • Zogre Flesh Eaters: this requires 4 Smithing, 8 Herblore, 30 ranged, and completion of Big Chompy Bird and jungle potion.
  • The Fremennik Trails: this requires 25 fletching, 40 woodcutting, and 40 crafting. It rewards players with 2,812.4 fletching experience upon completion.
  • Temple of Ikov: this requires 42 thieving, 40 ranged, and the ability to defeat a level 84 enemy with ranged. It rewards players with 8,000 fletching experience upon completion.

Fastest Methods of Training Fletching

Zero Time Methods of Training fletching

Zero-time methods of training fletching refer to methods that have no in-game delay, meaning they occur as soon as you click. For instance, when making darts, clicking on a feather and then a dart tip instantly creates a dart with no in-game delays. If you are quick enough, you can make up to 216,000 darts per hour, which is one dart every second. An advantage of this method is that it can be used for training fletching while doing other activities.

Making Darts

Making Darts is one of the best Zero-time methods of training fletching, but it is quite expensive. It’s best to purchase all the necessary materials in advance, as you will likely run out quickly. Darts require certain smithing and fletching before they can be made by combining a feather with a dart tip.

Making Bolts

Making bolts is another strong zero-time Fletching method that works the same way as dart fletching. Players attach feathers to unfinished bolts to gain experience. Making this method far more accessible for most players. Because unfinished bolts and feathers have buy limits, it is strongly recommended to purchase all materials ahead of time before starting long sessions.

It’s best to buy all the materials needed for each method first, so you won’t have to go to the exchange to purchase the items required.

Cheap Method of Training Fletching

If the methods above are too expensive, and you don’t mind trading off some speed to get lower costs, this section is for you.

Vale Totems

Vale Totems is a new minigame introduced to the game about fletching, a skill that has long been forgotten and is intended to revive its popularity. Vale Totems takes place in the northern part of Varlamore and offers high fletching exp rates and a new, less boring method than repeatedly chopping logs on the bench and trying not to die of boredom. This guide will cover requirements, how to get there, how the minigame works, strategies for efficiency, rewards, and the best XP rates.

Requirements

  •   20 Fletching
  •   Quest: Completion of the Vale Totems miniquest.
  •   Agility 45 (recommended): unlocks shortcuts between certain totems for faster laps.

Location

How to Get There

  • Kettzel bird transport (after Twilight’s Promise) → directly to Auburn Vale.
  • Pendant of Ates teleport to Nemus Retreat with completion of The Heart of Darkness
  • Fairy ring code AIS → quick teleport option.
  • Once there, start at the northern bank in Auburn Vale.
  • At Vale Totems, players complete a circuit of 8 totem sites around the valley

Making Bows (5-99 Fletching)

Making bows involves fletching and stringing bows. It is a very slow way of training fletching, but it requires little effort and is usually cheap or profitable.

Experience Rates and Costs of Making Bows

Stringing a bow is faster but demands more focus, while fletching an unstrung bow is more AFK but gives less experience per hour. Fletching unstrung bows requires three ticks per bow, so it takes 48.6 seconds to fletch an inventory; stringing bowsrequirese two ticks per bow, so it takes 16.8 seconds to string an inventory.

The following table assumes that 2,450 bows are strung per hour and 1,700 bows are fletched per hour.

Conclusion

Fletching is one of those skills you can level up faster if you're willing to spend money, or you can take it slow to make a profit along the way. Either way is fine. Ultimately, this skill is one of the easiest to get to 99 since you can AFK while at the bank. I hope you get the 99 cape sooner rather than later. Good luck!
